People whisper it like they whisper bad news. "Sleep regression." And it is hanging out in our house. Britton is developing so many new skills, like trying to roll over and trying to pull herself up into a sitting position. She can also grab a toy and bring it to her mouth. And with these new skills comes the desire to try them out and that is turning her brain into overdrive. You know how when you are thinking of something really important you can't fall asleep? Well, that's what she's doing. At first we thought it was a fluke. I'm not one to let her cry it out, and I know you can't make a wide-awake baby fall asleep. So instead of leaving her in her crib to flail, I moved her into her car seat, no lights on, and the hub and I settled onto the couch. She wanted to stay up to party, but if we talk to her and interact, it just makes her want to stay up more. We took turns peeking up to see what she was doing, and it took a good two hours for her to finally wear herself out enough to go back to sleep in her crib.
And then it happened again. And again. So we're staying patient, taking turns watching her not fall asleep. And we're riding it out because everything I've read says this too shall pass.
"What's on Letterman? Because I'm not going to sleep anytime soon."
