my fall quilt

Remember my goal of 2018 to make more quilts for myself?  Well, I started the year with a Christmas quilt, and I've now completed a fall quilt!  I was itching to do a log cabin pumpkin quilt, and wanted to use scrappy colors that a pumpkin could be - I've seen pumpkins from orange to red to brown, from green to yellow to white, and my pumpkins all turned out unique.

The backing is Kona "Windsor," a beautiful dark blue (the photo below more accurately shows the color), the binding is an orange and yellow gingham, and the backing is a beautiful vintage-looking fabric from Joanns.

I quilted the sashing with straight lines, and stippled inside each pumpkin.  Once washed and dried it turned out so crinkly and cuddly!  I'm glad this quilt can be used for all of fall, and I purposefully stayed away from Halloween themes so I could keep it out from the end of September through my Christmas quilt's debut.

barrett: 62 months old

Barrett might be due for a haircut, huh?  He's excited for kindergarten to begin, and he is tickled that he and Britton will be in the same school now.  And I think he's ready for a new haircut for school.  We're kind of bordering on Florence Henderson now!

Barrett has started swim lessons, and he is enjoying them!  I'm not sure if we will continue with the same teacher as he is young and kind of flaky.  It took weeks for us to get a lesson scheduled, and he missed it.  So, I'm looking to find someone else, because I think Barrett would really benefit from learning some swimming strokes.

Likes:  playing "policeman" (where he arrests Britton)

Dislikes:  getting out of the pool

Britton turns 9 years old in ONE MONTH!  We are already knee-deep into party planning around here, and invites will be going out next week.  You know I love anything crafty, so when I say that the theme is "Harry Potter," you know I'm taking this thing over the top (I claim it's for the kids, but it's mostly for me, so I can recreate Hogwarts and Hogsmeade in my house!).

Britton is gearing up for day camp all next week.  The campers will have water play, crafts, music, dance, and tons of other activities.  It's a good way for her and Barrett to get some time away from each other, and gives the hubs a break from entertaining two children who aren't entertained by the same things (except the pool - everyone always wants to do the pool!).

The one thing Britton really really really wanted to do this summer was dye her hair!  I said yes, but only if Memaw (who knows hair way better than I do) would do it.  And Memaw did!  As you can see below, the color has faded out as it is supposed to, but for a while it was gloriously blue.

Likes:  swimming, making a bed for Nella from a giant box

Dislikes:  Barrett playing with her toys
