Memaw, Britton, and I went to the Pittsburgh Ballet's Nutcracker this afternoon, at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh. We had seen the same production two years ago, and it was incredible. However, Britton had been a little young, and terrified of the Rat King, so we waited a couple more years to return. It did not disappoint! We even managed to snag the same seats we had before, in the director's circle.
We walked around the Benedum Center, got some water and snacks, then went to our seats. The auditorium was packed, and Britton was excited for the ballet to begin. So were Memaw and me! I do like the Sugar Plum Fairy (the real star of the show), but my favorite are the Arabian dancers. And the Russian dancers. And the bumblebees. Too many to count!
They were selling merchandise, and Memaw treated Britton to a ballet slipper ornament. We also picked up some pointe shoes worn and autographed by the ballet dancer who played Marie (the lead, who I remember always being called Clara, not Marie). Britton wanted to try them on, and got on pointe!
