Britton is 28 months old today. The major difference I think we've seen in Britton over the last month is her interaction with us and her friends at school. She has moved from wanting us to entertain her to being a part of the entertainment. And she's showing her imagination! When I picked her up from daycare the other day, she had a purse slung over her shoulder and was announcing to the teacher that she was going to see the doctor. Britton hasn't been to the doctor's office in months, but she and her friend Desirae were getting a kick out of the pretend play.
Britton has started singing more too, which just melts my heart. And it appears she didn't inherit my cat-on-fire singing voice, so others may actually enjoy her singing along with her! Britton loves reading, attempting to read the books to me and always asking for just one more book at bedtime. Her new favorites are the Disney princesses (Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty in particular) and the Lion King. And it doesn't help that her daycare is having a book fair with those books at her eye level - every day of dropping her off and picking her up is a struggle in getting her to understand that the books do not in fact belong to Britton.
Britton is still eating well, though eating the most at breakfast or lunch and not dinner. She has discovered ice cream cones via Memaw, but doesn't quite know yet that the cone can hold much more ice cream than we put in there! Her big favorites this month have been baby carrots and apples and anything resembling a biscuit.
Potty training is going well. Just tonight Britton peed in the potty, and you'd think she cured cancer with the hooting and hollering and high-fives, but the hub and I know that rewarding the behavior with positive reinforcement is key. Her preference of pull-ups has moved from Dora to the Disney princesses, and she still wants her Dora panties, which we let her wear at home.
Britton is really showing a knack for matching games. Memaw and PawPaw have a matching game on their iPad that Britton likes to play, so I knew she had done it before. But the other night she, the hub, and me were on the floor coloring on a giant easel pad. Britton had her assortment of colored ponytail holders with her (she likes to put them on as bracelets), so we colored circles with the markers and had her match up the ponytail holder with the same color circle. She loved the game! And she was really good at it too.
Tantrums are now starting to rear their ugly heads. But we've noticed that the tantrums are linked to her frustration in either not being able to do something or not being able to communicate with us. They are (luckily) far and few between, and we let her have some quiet time to calm down, then redirect to another activity. They do occur more if she is tired, and lately Britton is only napping about 75% of the time at daycare. But she's still sleeping 12 hours at night, so I can't complain about the periodically missed naps.
We went through a little trying spell where Britton was refusing to bathe. It lasted a couple of days, then Memaw and PawPaw bought her a Dora castle that suctions to the side of the tub. Britton loves it and practically runs to the bath every night now. And she's started "swimming" in the tub, where she leans back on her arms and puts herself into the water up to her mouth. Then she flips over and wiggles!
At this point in the "photo session" Britton badly wanted my camera. And she was not going to give me a smile until I gave her the camera. Of course, giving her the camera meant I couldn't get a picture!
Likes: Sadie (her new best bud), cornbread, pink lemonade, her new Dora castle, Dora in general, jumping (on everything, including the hub), Christmas lights, puppies, singing in the car
Dislikes: rice, the rain (because she can't play outside), when I don't give her 100% undivided attention when she's telling me something, having her hair washed, being off her routine
And I completely forgot to share this when they came in, but here are Britton's school pictures from the end of September! I think she's got a Kool-Aid moustache, but I can't be certain.
