My little baby is growing up. Today Britton turned 10 months old. I have no idea when this happened, as time is moving way too quickly for my taste (and sanity). Sure, I miss the tiny baby she once was, sleeping on me without a care in the world. Satisfied with being changed and eating. And then I'm smacked right back into reality, waking up every three hours to nurse, crying with no end in sight, and I am quite content with my infant.
No doctor's appointment until she turns 1 (oh, the heart palpitations are back!) so here's where she is at developmentally. As you know, Britton walked three steps! She is great at walking when holding onto the couch or us for support. She can even reach down and pick up an object while standing. She is taking more risks now, letting go and standing by herself for longer periods of time. Britton's "talking" is growing too - she says "dada," "baba," and "mama" though we are pretty certain she has yet to link those words to anything or anyone in particular. Nonetheless, they are nice to hear. She is eating more solid foods now, and actually prefers foods that allow her to feed herself. She takes the spoon from me when I feed her baby food, and attempts to get it into the jar, then raise the spoon to her mouth. It is the cutest thing ever, but also requires me to keep an extra spoon handy so I can actually get food in her mouth! She is eating mostly Stage 3 foods, though some Stage 2 for variety. She is also eating avacado, peas, carrot bits, Cheerios, and drinking water from a sippy cup.
Britton is making friends at daycare, and I was told that she is the "pacifier stealer." Now, she's never shown interest in a pacifier, so I was confused. But it turns out she steals the kids' pacifiers to chew on. And apparently when she is finished, she tries to put it back into the baby's mouth! It's fine by me because the other babies steal her hair bows on a daily basis. She loves going outdoors and will throw a royal fit if you try to make her go inside before she is ready. She also loves walks in her stroller, and playing with Sadie.
As far as sleeping goes, consistency has paid off tremendously. Britton goes to bed at 6:30 p.m. and doesn't get up for 12 hours straight. She has pulled away from needing her morning nap every day, but that is no problem. She is now more aware of her surroundings, seeing herself as a small part of a bigger picture. This in turn has started stranger anxiety, and startling when she hears loud noises.
Britton is wearing her clothes out, if only in the length department. Some of her 12 month summer stuff is too small, so she has progressed to some 12-18 month clothing. And we've stopped putting socks on her because of the warm/hot weather, as well as allowing her to feel the ground underneath her feet. Also, she has 2.5 teeth now, and 2 more in the top trying to poke through.
Likes: anything outdoors, Cheerios, being thrown in the air, anything she can chew on, eating/tearing up the newspaper, being rolled upside down, singing, music and musical toys, block towers (so she can knock them down), teething biscuits
Dislikes: anything that requires her to sit still such as changing her diaper, having clothing pulled over her head, taking away toys, waiting in general but mostly for food, loud sudden noises
That poor paper never stood a chance...Celebratory dinner - chicken noodle dinner, peas, Cheerios, and a smile...
